The Department of Art: The University of Maryland - Undergraduate Van Crews Scholarship

Special Programs in the Department of Art:

The Art Gallery

The Art Gallery, an independent unit that works closely with both the Department of Art and the Department of Art History and Archaeology, maintains a collection of 20th Century American Âpaintings and works on paper as well as a collection of African Sculpture. Located within the Art/ÂSociology building, it functions as an excellent teaching facility. The staff, which includes a full-time director and associate personnel, organizes and hosts major exhibitions of historical and contemporary art. In the ÒCrosscurrentsÓ Series the Gallery invites guest curators to organize contemporary Âexhibitions each year. Held for the benefit of the University community and the general public, the exhibitions also attract critical attention.
