W.C. Richardson’s most recent one person shows were at Loyola University, Baltimore, MD, March 2004; Fusebox, Washington, DC, June 2003; Fusebox, Washington, DC, July 2002; Baumgartner Gallery, New York, NY, September 2000. His work has been reviewed in Art In America, ArtNews, Artforum, The Washington Post and the Washington Times, among others. In April, 1998, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden purchased the 77”x77” painting “Timellock,” from a one person exhibition at Baumgartner Gallery, Washington, DC. This painting was included in “The Hirshhorn at Twenty-five: Celebrating Modern and Contemporary Art,” Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC. April – September 1999.

Richardson received Maryland State Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowships in 2002, 1998, 1987 and 1981. In each case, he was the receipient of one of ten awards in the largest amount given.
Richardson was commissioned by the architectural firm Cesar Pelli and Associates to create two 2”x24” painted triptychs to be reproduced in porcelanized steel for the new North Terminal of Ronald Reagan National Airport. His work was among that of 26 nationally known artists whose work was installed in the new terminal. His work was reproduced and discussed in numerous reviews including the Washington Post article, “A New National: 10 Artists You Shouldn’t Miss,” by Ferdinand Protzman.

In 1998, Richardson co-curated, with Paula Crawford, the exhibition “Recent Paintings” at Projectspace in Washington, DC., an exhibition space run by the Washington Project for the Arts/Corcoran Gallery of Art. This was an eight-person show of emerging painters from Washington and Baltimore. A 16-page catalogue featuring essays by the two curators was produced.

In September, 1998, Richardson was co-juror, along with Annie Gawlak, of the exhibition “Strictly Painting” which opened at the Emerson Gallery of the McLean Project for the Arts in McLean, VA. This competition included artists from Richmond to Baltimore.

In November, 1998, Richardson’s work was included in the abstract painting exhibition, “Chance and Necessity,” curated by Power Boothe, at Maryland Art Place in Baltimore. A color catalogue was produced. The exhibition travelled to St. Mary’s College, the Columbia(MD)Arts Festival and the Kennedy Museum of Art, Ohio University, Athens, OH.
