Ruth Lozner - Graphic Design
Professor Ruth Lozner her received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and her MFA from American University. Currently, she is an Associate Professor with the Department of Art. Previously, Professor Lozner held faculty positions at the University of the Arts, as Chair of the Illustration Department and Parsons School of Design, as Adjunct Professor of Illustration and Design. For the last several years, she has been Faculty Advisor for the UMD student chapter of the American Institute for Graphic Artists ( AIGA) and has served on the National Board of the Graphic Artists Guild.
In addition, Professor Lozner has worked as Art Director for AMES Film and Video Productions (receiving three local Emmy Awards for her work with them); Art Director of the section fronts for the 13 newspapers of The Journal Newspapers, Inc. (including Army Times, Navy Times, Federal Times, Montgomery Journal) and Art Director of WNVT- TV Channel 53, a PBS affiliate in Virginia.
Her active freelance work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Atlantic Monthly, Good Housekeeping, Newsday, Illustration: Japan, American Express Travel and Leisure, Sports Afield, and CBS Records. Her illustration work garnered several awards from the Society of Illustrators and Metropolitan Illustrators Club. She is also the author of the textbook, "Scratchboard for Illustration", published by Watson-Guptill. In addition, her Fine Art work of assemblage sculpture and paintings have been shown in numerous gallery exhibitions and museums. Professor Lozner lectures extensively on the Interface of Design and Business, Design Thinking and Innovation and Contemporary Design Pedagogy.
