




John McCarty - Sculpture
John Mccarty received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in 1968 following a BA from the University of Virginia in 1961. He is presently as Associate Professor of Sculpture at the University of Maryland, where he has taught since 1990.
His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad, including Amerkahaus in Berlin, the Phillips Collection, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Virginia Museum, Duke University, Duquesne University and others. He has executed public commissions in the U.S. and in Ghana, West Africa.
McCarty has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, the Virginia Commision for the Arts, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. his work has been reviewed in a number of publications including Art News, Art International, Sculpture Magazine, Museum & Arts, The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, The Christian Science Monitor, and Der Tagesspiegel
