John Dorsey Prize for Outstanding Curatorial Practice

As the leading art critic for The Baltimore Sun and a well-known area curator, John Dorsey’s incisive critical perspective and passion for visual arts provided immeasurable contributions to the contemporary art community. This annual Department of Art prize rewards students who excel in critical thinking skills and curatorial practice. The award honors the single, best exhibition proposal submitted for this competition. click here for guidelines and application

The Creative and Performing Arts Scholarship

Every Spring, the Department of Art selects eight outstanding Studio Art majors to receive a Creative and Performing Arts Scholarship (CAPA). The CAPA award is equivalent to full in-state tuition for one academic year (two regular semesters). CAPA Scholars will have the opportunity to be considered for renewal each year for a total of up to four years of undergraduate study.click here for more information

The Nancy Clarvit Design Scholarship

The Nancy Clarvit Design Scholarship provides funds to students in two categories: Students who have achieved a high degree of merit in the Design program and students who have achieved a high degree of merit in the Design program AND require additional financial assistance to complete their college education. Art Studio students may apply after they have been accepted into the Design. The Nancy Clarvit Design Scholarship fund will provide $15,000 in scholarships to Design students for the 2009-2010 school year. $10,000 be awarded to students based on merit. $5,000 will be awarded to students based on merit and financial need. click here for further details

Anwar Sadat Art for Peace Prize

Given in conjunction with the Anwar Sadat Lecture for Peace held annually on the UMD campus. Awards are given in 2-D and 3-D categories. information

Stephanie E. Pogue Memorial Award

Awarded to an Art Studio Major who is of at least junior standing and who exemplifies artistic aspirations and achievements of Stephanie Pogue and has financial need. This award is adminstered by the David C. Driskell Center

The Colonel Wharton Award

3 monetary awards are made to graduating seniors for presenting accomplished artwork in the Department's Senior Exhibition

The Department of Art Van Crews Scholarship

The Department of Art Van Crews Jr. Scholarship is designated for a student who as been admitted into the Design concentration or has declared a commitment to pursue a concentration in design. The amount of the scholarship will vary from year to year; last yearÕs award was approximately $3,000. The current Van Crews Scholar can reapply for the scholarship in any subsequent year and will be considered provided that he/she continues to meet the selection criteria.
